Bolinger Law Firm has concentrated in the area of Family Law since our firm opened. We represent husbands, wives, grandparents and guardians to forge agreements or to litigate cases before the courts in all family law matters. We have experience in high asset divorces and contentious custody disputes.

In Indiana, the legal term for divorce is the dissolution of marriage, which means the termination of a marriage that cancels the legal duties. Indiana is a no-fault state, so the court does not require any
transgression on either side in order to file for a divorce, besides there being an “Irretrievable breakdown of the marriage."

Support

Each parent has an obligation to provide financial support for their children. This is often referred to as child support and is calculated based on multiple factors, including but not limited to each parent’s income. Child support can also be modified after dissolution if certain factors are met.

Indiana delineates two kinds of child custody. Physical custody determines where a child resides and legal custody determines which parent will make the major decisions about how a child is raised. Our firm assists with both kinds of custody situations.

Parenting Time (Visitation)

Parenting Time, or Visitation, is the division of time that a child has between parents. Most judges follow the Indiana Parenting Time Guidelines which sets minimum standards for parenting time, including how to manage holidays and children’s activities.

Unlike third-party custody or guardianship, adoption is permanent and the biological parents have no rights or obligations to the adopted child. Our office can assist with stepparent adoption and relative adoption.

Paternity

Paternity refers to the legally established relationship between a child and the child’s father. If paternity is not legally established, the father has no rights to the child, nor will a mother receive child support. We can help establish paternity through the court system and assist with the child support process afterward.

Guardianship of a child or adult is when a person other than the child’s parent(s) or the adult has legal custody. A guardian has full control and decision-making authority regarding the child or adult as long as the guardianship is in place.
